20 minutes

Yesterday I had the opportunity for the first time to teach part of the lecture in class.  It was the last 20 minutes and after waiting for weeks it was finally my turn. At first I felt nervous, being in front of a auditorium with 36 students looking at me, waiting for what I had to say [teach]. However, after I began talking I realized that I knew what I was talking about and I became calm. I talked about the Hippodamus system, the Greek house, and the importance of mosaics in the domestic architecture in Greece. Thanks to what Prof. Celeste taught me in my Ancient Art and Architecture class I was able to not only lecture the students but also answer to their questions.

  1. Claudia,
I would be interested to hear more about your lecturing technique and your use of visuals. Did you set up the visuals (PowerPoint?) or was that already prepared for you?

  2. Robin,
I made my own Power Point that later was included in Porf. Lizardi presentation so the class could continue without interruption. For my lecturing technique I included in the PP my notes so I can read it in the computer but the students could not see them in the projection. This technique helped me to feel more confident in what I am teaching to the class. I used previous notes from the professor but also include my own images and notes that I learn in class and I found while preparing my presentation.

  3. Claudia,

I was not aware of the capability in PowerPoint to show notes on your computer but not on the projected image. Interesting! With time, you will need the notes less and less, as you put them to memory. Practice moving away from your computer and lecturing in a more extemporaneous manner.

I'd like to see a post about your use of images.

    Keep up the good work!
